Borate fusion dissolves geological and industrial samples into homogeneous glass discs or solutions, eliminating mineral matrix effects for highly accurate XRF results.
Fusion suits silicates, oxides, carbonates, sulphates, ores, cement, slag and ceramics. It is not suitable for high metal content or volatile element samples.
The most common fluxes are lithium tetraborate, lithium metaborate and mixtures of the two. Metaborate suits acidic samples; tetraborate suits basic samples.
